[November 26, field work was held at Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Culture Zone]

Mainly, this year's Hakusanroku training team will be doing field work in Ishikawa Shiko Memorial Park & Honda-no-Mori Park, these are in the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone.

The features and issues are completely different between Hakusanroku, located in the hilly and mountainous area, and central Kanazawa, the core city of Hokuriku. Of course, the meaning of the word “activation” is different. However, there are many situations that we can find the essence of activations out, learning about both “activation” sites.

On November 26th, the third field work, feeling the autumn of Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone, we learned preparations like Yukizuri (snow hanging) and cover of the installation there for killer winter and pursuit of the beauty making use of them.

At the same time, it became an opportunity to think about how to use this area as the cultural zone. Here is a report.

On the day, we arrived at Kanazawa before noon. Taking a snack at Kanazawa Station, we headed to Kanazawa Castle. At the administrative office in the castle we greeted Mr. Fujimura, the director, and discussed how to proceed with fieldwork in the future, especially about creating a phenology calendar for the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone. Even if a poster-sized phenology calendar was created, it was found that the amount of information would be substantial if the changes of the seasons, highlights, cultural events and events were included. Although we will never have difficulties that no events to list, we need rules that which event should be in or out of list, so we felt that the task would be harder than we had imagined.

Tomitaka and Nagata who participated this time are third-year students will be pulling this fieldwork next year, so it made them get a grip.

After the meeting, we went to Kenrokuen first. What impressed me most was the “Yukizuri” As Mr. Fujimura told us as a lecturer, they were exactly sophisticated “use and beauty”. Although it is a snow suspension designed to prevent garden tree branches from falling due to snow, the Yukizuri seem to golden cones extending toward the blue sky when viewed from a distance. The green mountainous view of Mt. Io visible in the back emphasizes the Yukizuri and gives it a sparkle. This on the surface of Oike was also powerful. This looks Kenrokuen's winter flower.

Once you look at them of Karasaki pine overhanging the surface of the water and the male figure of the pine of the roots, you can't help thinking of the efforts and skills of the gardener. From [Human power] and [ Souko, old fashioned and tasteful] which should be contradictory, we were able to know the greatness of protecting old and wonderful things with human power.

Although Kenrokuen is a place where you can enjoy the tranquility of the island, such as the appearance of Horaijima and the garden of Seisonkaku and the depth. It was a masterpiece.

From Kenrokuen to Honda-no-Mori Park, the first thing I saw was the exterior of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, which was moved to Kanazawa. In order to match the surrounding landscape, the buildings of the former Ninth Division Command Office and the former Kanazawa Kaikosha, which were originally in the vicinity, have been relocated, and the interior is being rebuilt as a crafts house. The appearance is complete. The potential of the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone will increase. (A monument using a water pipe for drinking water was fountained! We were lucky to see it!)

From here, we passed through Honda-no-Mori, the site of the 21st Century Museum of Art, and headed for Ishikawa Shiko Memorial Park. There are few people in the park because it is noon on weekdays. The bustle of summer Oktoberfest and the healing space of today, both expressions of the park are also an option for park managers. Because it is a park with a variety of facial expressions, the skill and management power of the management is be in question to managers. Mr. Fujimura, Mr. Uemura, Mr. Nakagawa who are doing very difficult work. I am respectful again.

Going back to Kanazawa Castle via Oyama Shrine. When the Nezumitamon connecting the shrine and the castle will be completed next spring, the way from Nagamachi Samurai Residence-Oyama Shrine-Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden-Ishikawa Shiko Memorial Park-21 the lead connecting the Century Museum to Honda-no-Mori Park (National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Ishikawa Museum, etc.) will be open. It means it going to be a great leap for the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone forward as one region.

We have enjoyed the charm of the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone through this field work twice in the past and realized the power of this area. Considering the vitalization in the training of Hakusanroku, “How to create power” is an issue. However, in the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone, I thought that “how to control power” was the key to making better use of this area. From the next year, we will challenge to create a phenology calendar for Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Cultural Zone. I hope that also this calendar will help to control the power, and I want to make an effort to make a good one so that it can be a highlight of the local community.

  • Again ... In this field work, Mr. Fujimura, Director of Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Management Office, Mr. Uemura, Mr. Nakagawa, who are the designated managers of Ishikawa Shiko Memorial Park & Honda-no-mori Park, I received support. I would like to take this opportunity to thank your supports.
