ラオスインターン奮闘日記!Life in Laos!

[gallery]This week, I will talk about an old Japanese man who lives in Pakse, Laos. He runs a kakigori shop in Laos. After losing his wife, he asked a fortune teller what he should do. The fortune teller told him to go to Laos, so he came here. He can speak neither Lao nor English, but his communication skill with Lao people is amazing. Since there is no kakigori in Laos, Lao people are really loving it! I go to his shop every day after work to hear his stories.

The most surprising thing that happened this week was the birthday party in Laos. In Japan, most people don’t have birthday parties. They celebrate within the families by eating a birthday cake together. In America, the person who has the birthday invites his/her friends and hosts a birthday party. The birthday party in Laos was more like American. My colleague had her birthday this week, and she invited me to her birthday party, which was held in a drinking spot. There were more than 30 people attending the party, and we drank a lot. It was interesting that Laos has the 一気飲み culture. I thought that happens only in Japan.
